Minnesota West would like to congratulate Kayla Westra on being elected as the President-elect for the NACEP (National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships) Board of Directors. Kayla has been involved in concurrent enrollment as an English mentor faculty member and Dean for over 17 years. After many years of service as a volunteer in NACEP and Minnesota Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships, Kayla was elected to the Board last year as Two-Year Public Institutional Representative. She will begin a two-year term as President-elect (followed by two years as President) this November.

Dr. Kayla Westra, Minnesota West Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Liberal Arts, has spent 17 years working in concurrent enrollment. Kayla has worked as both a concurrent enrollment mentor faculty (English Faculty, mentor for 9 years) as well as the dean responsible for the concurrent enrollment at Minnesota West Community & Technical College for the past 8 years.

"I am interested in serving for this position as a way to assist, nation-wide, with quality concurrent enrollment programs. Those involved with accreditation efforts are critical to helping raise the academic bar in many areas of higher education, and this in turn helps us better serve our students as they progress through their post-secondary pathways. Another reason that I am interested in serving in this capacity is that I have found that when I am involved and serving, I can also learn and share that information at my institution, at the state level (MnCEP), and through NACEP, across the nation. Providing a quality education that meets the needs of our students is the calling I have followed for 20+ years," stated Kayla.

The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) works to ensure that college courses offered by high school teachers are as rigorous as courses offered on the sponsoring college campus. As the sole accrediting body for concurrent enrollment partnerships, NACEP helps these programs adhere to the highest standards so students experience a seamless transition to college and teachers benefit from meaningful, ongoing professional development.
