Minnesota West Community & Technical College Athletic Announcement for Fall Athletics

Minnesota West Community & Technical College will be moving forward with competing in Men’s Soccer, Men & Women’s Trapshooting, Women’s Golf, Football and Volleyball for the 2021 fall season.

The college will continue to work with Minnesota Department of Health guidelines for determining safety of players and fans.

Minnesota West President Dr. Terry Gaalswyk comments, “Minnesota West is delighted to announce our pledge to our fall sports programming and student-athletes. The devotion of our current students-athletes and coaching staff to their academics and in adhering to our return-to-play protocols in the midst of this winter season evidences their character. Our student-athletes and coaching staff are dedicated to wellness our college community, we greatly appreciate their commitment.”

Rosalie Hayenga, Minnesota West Women’s Athletic Director, “We are extremely excited that Minnesota West has committed to playing all sports this coming fall. This is so important for each of these student-athletes and will allow them to feel confident in their decision, knowing that they are going to be able to continue their education, while getting the opportunity to continue playing the sport that they love. It is also extremely exciting on the women’s side as we venture into the rebirth of our women’s golf program here at Minnesota West. This will be an exciting time as we look forward to bringing back women’s golf onto campus along with our Women’s Trapshooting and Volleyball athletes.”

"Fall sports is really important for us at Minnesota West. Our coaches understand the importance of the COVID-19 issues but want to prove they can have sports in a safe way not to spread the virus. Our students need to have a little normal back in their lives," notes Minnesota West Men’s Athletic Director Robert Purcell.
