Health Information Management Program Accreditation Status

7/31/17

Minnesota West Community & Technical College is pleased to announce candidacy status of the Associate Degree Health Information Management (HIT) program.

Candidacy status with Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) allows current and future Health Information Technology (HIT) students to be able to apply for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam upon final Accreditation of the school and after the student graduates from the HIT program at Minnesota West.  Seeking accreditation from CAHIIM is a voluntary peer review process that assures academic quality in higher education.

“Candidacy status is a huge step for Minnesota West.  Candidacy status by CAHIIM, indicates that we are preparing students to enter the Health Information Profession with relevant and hands on experience, something employers are seeking. The need for Health Information Professionals has not slowed down and we want to be giving our students the edge they need to have more possibilities for their future”, notes Minnesota West instructor, Elaina Nichols.

Jackie Otkin, Minnesota West Pipestone Campus Dean, states, “This is an exciting opportunity for our students to sit for the national exam. The faculty at Minnesota West work extremely hard to design our program and curriculum to meet the needs of industry and accreditation standards.”

For more information on the HIT program contact Minnesota West at 800-658-2330 or www.mnwest.edu.

The Associate Degree Health Information Management Program is in Candidacy Status, pending accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
