Fiene to Receive ACCT Award

Minnesota West mathematics instructor, Shannon Fiene, has been selected to receive the 2016 ACCT Central Region Faculty Award. The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond. The ACCT recognizes exemplary members in each if it’s five regions in the categories of Trustee Leadership, Equity, Chief Executive Officer, Faculty Member, and Professional Board Staff Member.

Dr. Terry Gaalswyk, Minnesota West President, stated, “Shannon’s motto of “Tear down the wall” communicates a deep understanding and sincere appreciation for the complexities of being a true teacher. Shannon has answered a call to a vocation of service. She strives to awaken curiosity and to advantage the abilities of those seeking; and she pursues personal growth through reflection and culling that which inhibits her own understanding.”

As the 2016 ACCT Central Region Faculty Award recipient, Fiene will be recognized at the 2016 ACCT Annual Leadership Congress in New Orleans in October, along with the recipients from other regions and categories.
