She has twenty years of experience teaching English and related areas and has been the college's instructional designer, center for teaching and learning coordinator, assessment coordinator, and Desire2Learn administrator as part of her responsibilities while at Minnesota West.  She has been the interim Dean of Technology and Distance Learning at Minnesota West since August 2010.

President Richard Shrubb notes, “One of the things I’ve been proud of during my administration is that people within the college have an ability to advance and shape their careers.  We were proud of Kayla when she was a teacher, we’ve been proud of her as an interim dean, and we’re pleased to have her fill our permanent full-time needs.”
