Madolyn Jensen Learning with Purpose

Meet Madolyn Jensen, a first year student in the Fluid Program at Minnesota West. Madolyn grew up near Dawson, Minnesota. Other important details about Madolyn - she is an identical twin, a John Deere Scholarship recipient, loves to sing, to work with her hands, and is always looking to the next adventure to keep her busy!

One of three women currently in Minnesota West’s Fluid Power Program, Madolyn became interested in Fluid Power through her high school Agriculture program, which offered a semester class in the subject. Madolyn was also very active in her high school FFA Chapter. This involvement in FFA led her high school Agriculture instructor to recommend the John Deere Scholarship program to Madolyn.

Madolyln took her instructor’s recommendation and applied for the John Deere Scholarship. In doing so she completed one application, but as a student was grouped into scholarship categories within the John Deere Scholarship Program based on her interests. In determining recipients, the student is also evaluated on how many hours are put into extracurricular activities such as FFA and other volunteer work and groups. After applying, in the late spring, and much to her surprise, Madolyn was awarded a John Deere Scholarship for the 2015 Academic Year! Unbeknownst to her, her high school Agriculture instructor had been notified and opted to share the information with Madolyn and her peers at the High School FFA Awards Banquet last spring.

When asked how the scholarship enhances her college career, Madolyn stated it makes her want to, “Work hard and prove I am a well-deserving recipient of the scholarship.” When asked why she chose Minnesota West, Madolyn elaborated that Minnesota West is one of only four schools in Minnesota with a Fluid Power Program and she liked that it was close to home. Madolyn is able to car pool and commute to classes pretty easily as her Mom is an instructor in Computer Support Technology on the Granite Falls Campus.

Her favorite part about being a student at Minnesota West?  That the, “Instructors are very personable and great to work with. They will help you anytime you need help, in person or via email."

In addition to being a student, Madolyn is also a member of Student Senate, serving as Secretary, is the Public Relations representative for the local BPA (Business Professionals of America), and takes voice lessons from Minnesota West’s Eric Parrish, a Music and Theatre instructor on the Worthington Campus.

At Minnesota West, we are proud of our students, who are demonstrating everyday what it means to Learn with Purpose!
