National Radiologic Technology Week

Providing patients with safe medical imaging examinations is the prime goal for the nation’s radiologic technologists. To recognize the vital work of its R.T.s and the students who are preparing for this field, Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Luverne Center, is celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week.

National Radiologic Technology Week, scheduled for November 2-8, 2014, is celebrated annually to recognize the vital work of radiologic technologists across the nation. The celebration takes place each November to commemorate the anniversary of the x-ray's discovery by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895.

Medical imaging professionals work with some of the most innovative equipment in the medical field to help identify pathologies, plan and administer treatment and restore patient health. R.T.s specialize in breast imaging, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging and general diagnostic radiology. The week-long celebration calls attention to the valuable work of R.T.s in the health care field and the highly technical images that they make. The images play an integral role in the medical process and in the lives of millions of patients.  Minnesota West Radiologic Technology Program not only takes this opportunity to celebrate the discovery of x-rays, but also to recognize and honor the hard work and accomplishments of the registered radiographers throughout region.

“Radiologic Technology Week provides a great opportunity to bring attention to this stimulating field,” stated Tonya Koepsell, Radiologic Technology Program Director at Minnesota West. “The enthusiasm shown by our students as they experience things in the field for the first time allows us to be constantly reminded of how thrilling radiologic technology can be, and how it is filled with outstanding professionals from within our region.”
