Mayo Clinic Nursing Opportunities in Fairmont

4/19/19

Minnesota West Nursing program and Mayo Clinic Health System serve a large geographical region in southern Minnesota. This geography includes the areas in which Minnesota West students live and work.  Most recently, Mayo Clinic Health System has invited Minnesota West to expand presence in the Fairmont area.

Mayo Clinic Health System has a strategic priority in hiring LPNs, as evidenced by recently having established an LPN Recruitment Task Force for the Midwest. The Minnesota West online practical nursing option for didactic courses serves learners living and working in remote areas well.

Mayo Clinic Health System values the additional capacity the college provides with both the Associate degree and Practical Nursing program provides.

Jane Foote, Mayo Clinic Health System Academic Affairs Program Director Midwest notes, “The importance of these two programs maintaining accreditation status, and providing leadership in this region is tremendous. Because of the proximity to Iowa and the limited number of accredited programs in that state, having access to high quality programs is essential for the regional workforce. Mayo Clinic Health System only hires new graduates of accredited nursing programs.”

Carol Reichel, Nursing Education Specialist at Mayo Clinic Health System adds, “We are dedicated to creating valuable partnerships to help develop as well as recruit our future workforce.  It is an honor to collaborate with Minnesota West and we are thrilled to have a strong nursing program presence in Fairmont.”

Dawn Gordon, Minnesota West Dean Nursing & Sciences comments, “Minnesota West’s nursing programs continue to serve students in the Fairmont region.  We collaborate with Mayo Clinic Health System, Fairmont to continue to meet the nursing workforce needs.  I am pleased that our continued partnership is strong as we offer acceptance to the next class of nursing students.”

Minnesota West recently reviewed and accepted 16 students that will need clinicals in the Fairmont region for their LPN to RN degree.  These 16 students are a dedicated cohort for Minnesota West to support needs in the Fairmont area.
