Electrical Students Place First at SkillsUSA

Electrical Instructor James Brewers, once again, has brought students to the SkillsUSA Minnesota State Leadership and Skills Conference. The conference was held at the Double Tree in Bloomington, MN and the competition was held at JH Larson’s Electrical Wholesale in Plymouth.  
The Canby Campus of Minnesota West is proud to announce that two of their very own students in the Electrical Program took first place. They will then go on to compete at the National competition which will take place June 2014 in Kansas City. 


The winners of the competition were Dalton Magers who competed in Residential Construction Wiring and Tony Kipka who competed in Industrial Motor Controls.  Students that also competed in other areas of the completion were: Wyatt McKenney and Joe Hurt in Diesel Technology, Zach Thooft in Residential Construction Wiring and Dallas Goslar in Industrial Motor Controls.


SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
