Suspended in a bucket lift high above the ground, linemen Alex Green and Nick Horman worked to fix a powerline with a dangerous current running through it.
In theory, at least.
The two men were part of a simulated hot wire training hosted by Minnesota West Community & Technical College in Jackson last week.
“We have the facility where they can come down … and the lines aren’t energized so nobody’s going to get hurt if they make a mistake,” said Minnesota West powerline instructor Brian Binnebose.
Nearly 100 people took part in the three-day training, including 65 Minnesota West powerline students. The school is one of three in the state offering the powerline program.
