Minnesota West Foundation Receives $15,000 AT&T Foundation Grant to Support Scholarship Programs

The Minnesota West Foundation received a $15,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation today to support its scholarship programs during an event on campus October 16, 2019.

The AT&T Foundation grant will support scholarships for Minnesota West students with financial need who are taking college classes in high-demand occupations, including Welding, Community Health, Information Technology, Pharmacy Technician or Nursing Assistant.

“With this grant from the AT&T Foundation, we are excited to provide scholarships to students enrolled in courses in high-demand occupations, including welding, information technology and community health among others,” said Terry Gaalswyk, Ph.D., President of Minnesota West Community and Technical College. “We know these are high-demand fields for our tri-state area, and we need to make sure we have a workforce trained for these jobs. We are grateful to the AT&T Foundation for helping our students with financial need gain the education they need for the workforce.”

The application process will open in April of 2020, and the scholarships will be used for tuition and books for the fall of 2020.

“For more than a century, education has been a top priority for AT&T,” said Paul Weirtz, president of AT&T Minnesota. “On behalf of the AT&T Foundation, we are proud to support the scholarship programs at Minnesota West and help local students receive the education they need to be prepared for careers in the 21st Century.”

Students in these courses will gain the skills and training they need for high-demand jobs in the tri-state area of southwestern Minnesota, northwestern Iowa and southeastern South Dakota.

“Minnesota West is a regional college of choice that is preparing learners for a lifetime of success,” said State Senator Gary Dahms (R – Redwood Falls). “These scholarships will help encourage more young students to pursue careers in these in-demand fields in our region.”

“The programs offered through Minnesota West Community and Technical College are critical to educating the workforce we need for a strong and successful Minnesota future,” said State Representative Chris Swedzinski. “It is great to see business leaders and education leaders working together to invest in our future workforce.”
