Minnesota West Receives HLC Location Approvals

7/23/19

Minnesota West Community & Technical College is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and most recently received accreditation status for additional locations including Fairmont High School in Fairmont, MN and Marshall Area Technical & Educational Center, in Marshall, MN.

These location sites met the definition of the number of credits offered at one location. At Fairmont High School students are able to achieve over fifty percent of a Liberal Arts A.A. degree. At Marshall Area Technical & Educational Center, students are able to achieve a Welding Certificate.

Dr. Kayla Westra, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness & Liberal Arts comments, “Minnesota West is dedicated to serving students in the region, and our partnerships with our K-12 institutions are critical to expanding access to education for students who may not be within driving distance of one our campuses.  These two schools showcase how dedication to access and opportunity can change students’ lives for the better.”

"Fairmont Area Schools is honored to collaborate with Minnesota West to provide college in the high school programs for our students.  Last year, our students saved $340,000 in tuition costs by earning credits through the college in the schools program," comments Joseph E. Brown, Sr., Fairmont Area Schools Superintendent

Marshall Public School’s Superintendent, Scott Monson, stated, “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Minnesota West for the program at MATEC. Our students have even better opportunities to pursue a career in welding because of the credits and certificate they are able to earn from Minnesota West. Perhaps more importantly, the opportunity often attracts students to a welding career, which is beneficial to regional businesses who have needs to skilled welders.”
