Standpoint, formerly Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project, exists to serve domestic and sexual violence survivors, advocates, attorneys, and other professionals in the state of Minnesota. Our experienced lawyers and advocates provide free support, trainingover the phone advocacy, and legal advice.


Family and Youth

The Indian Child Welfare Act Law Center serves to represent Indian families affected by the child protection system and advocating for systematic responses for better meeting the needs of Indian children and families.

Children’s Law Center of Minnesota, (CLC) provides free legal advocacy for foster care youth in Minnesota. CLC advocates for foster children through systemic reform and provides free legal representation services to foster children. 

Youth Law Project (YLP), gives young people statewide, an understanding of their legal options. YLP provides free legal advice and representation to: Youth, under the age of 18 and Young people, 18-24 years old who are in high school or working with a transitional living program, or experiencing homelessness.

Legal Services - Canby & Granite Falls Campuses:

Central Minnesota Legal Services (CMLS) has been providing civil legal services to low-income persons in 21 counties in Central Minnesota for more than 40 years.

The mission of Central Minnesota Legal Services is to increase access to justice by providing high quality legal services to individuals experiencing poverty, challenging inequities, and empowering community members to participate in our civil legal system.

CMLS helps eligible clients through direct representation, brief advice, and through participating in community legal education programs. 

Legal Services - Jackson, Luverne, Pipestone & Worthington Campuses:

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS) is a non-profit law firm that provides free legal help to low income and elderly people.   

SMRLS is a client-centered organization which is committed to its Mission of providing a full range of high-quality legal services, in a respectful manner which enable clients to: enforce their legal rights; maintain freedom from hunger, homelessness, sickness and abuse; and empower persons and ensure equal opportunity, thus, helping persons to help themselves and become economically self-reliant, to the extent their individual abilities and circumstances permit.

SMRLS values, welcomes, and promotes diversity in all aspects of its work. SMRLS serves clients from a wide range of backgrounds. SMRLS has adopted a Racial Justice policy to guide the firm’s work towards racial equality. 

Other General Legal Service - All campuses:

Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN) provides free legal help to qualifying clients in many civil legal issues in Minnesota. Some areas of law we help with include bankruptcy, criminal expungement, debt collection, employment, family law such as divorce and custody cases, housing law such as eviction and eviction expungement, immigration, and other general civil legal issues.

Supporting Safe and Inclusive Campus Communities emphasizes fostering a welcoming, equitable, and secure environment for students and employees. It highlights policies against discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence while promoting inclusivity through training, resources, and response protocols. The guide outlines mandatory employee training, reporting procedures for incidents, and student support services, including grievance processes and bias response teams. Additionally, it covers FERPA regulations, student privacy, and guidance on handling law enforcement requests, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws while protecting students’ rights and safety.


Health and Disability

Cancer Legal Care, provides free legal care and education to Minnesotans affected by cancer, for the legal issues they face that directly impact their health and quality of life.

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid is a non-profit organization that advocates for the legal rights of disadvantaged people to have safe, healthy, and independent lives in strong communities.


Housing

HOME Line provides free and low-cost legal, organizing, education, and advocacy services so that tenants throughout Minnesota can solve their own rental housing problems. We work to improve public and private policies relating to rental housing by involving affected tenants in the process.

Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, (MACV) offers housing services to Veterans and former Servicemembers who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homelessness.


Immigration and Refugee

All Campuses/Centers:

Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM) provides free immigration legal representation to low-income immigrants and refugees in Minnesota and North Dakota based on our capacity. Before you call, please see more information about our eligibility requirements, the types of cases we can provide assistance in, and other places to get help.

To receive free immigration legal assistance, please call our client intake line at 1-800-223-1368 during the following intake hours to schedule an appointment. We do not give walk-in or drop-in appointments.

The Advocates for Human Rights mobilizes pro bono legal professionals to provide free legal help to people seeking asylum, unaccompanied children, trafficking survivors, and people in immigration detention.

The United Cambodian Association of Minnesota is Legal and Immigration Services program that provides bilingual and bicultural legal and immigration assistance to low-income refugees and immigrants living in Minnesota. The services provided include assistance with a green card and citizenship applications, family reunification, and public benefits applications.
