Lady Jay Softball: Coaching Staff
Former Worthington High School and Worthington Community College (Minnesota West) Lady Jay star, Rosalie (Moz) Hayenga begins her eighth season as a Lady Jays' head softball coach. Under the direction of Coach Hayenga the Lady Jays set new single season wins record each of her first three seasons and once again set the new single season record with 24 wins in the 2010 season. She has also led the Lady Jays to two 4th place performances at the Minnesota State tournament as well as three appearances in the Region XIII softball tournament. The Lady Jays have been ranked as high as 8th in the Nation under Coach Hayenga. Numerous players have won All-State, All-Region, and All-American awards during Coach Hayenga's tenure.
Coach Hayenga served as an Assistant Basketball Coach and Women's Softball Coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. At the same time, she was an instructor in their Sport & Recreation Management Program. She has also served as an assistant basketball coach at Moorhead State University.
In addition to her current duties as women's head softball coach, Coach Hayenga is an assistant women's basketball coach and instructor at Minnesota West.
Steve Bassett is in his 12th year as the Assistant Lady Jays Softball Coach. He is in charge of pitchers and catchers at Minnesota West. Coach Basset is a graduate of Worthingon High School, attended Worthington Community Collge and served in the Armed Forces. He has coached 11-14 year old baseball, women's slow pitch for ten years, and has been a Minnesota baseball and softball umpire for the last 11 years.
