Minnesota West Community & Technical College offers proctoring services in a secure, quiet environment for the following circumstances: 1) students who cannot take a scheduled classroom exam; 2) students in online or ITV courses where proctored exams are required; 3) students who require alternative testing accommodations due to a documented disability; 4) individuals from other colleges or institutions.
To schedule a proctored exam time, students should contact the Resource Specialist on their campus, or call the Communication Center at 800-658-2330. NOTE: We may not be able to accommodate drop-in/walk-ins. Students with disabilities should contact the disability staff member at their location to schedule an exam.
There is no charge for proctoring for students enrolled at Minnesota West Community & Technical College or other MnSCU institutions.
Students who are NOT enrolled or who are NOT alumni at Minnesota West Community & Technical College or other MnSCU institutions will be charged a $20.00 testing fee for each exam (two hour maximum testing time). Proctoring for non-MnSCU exams over two hours / up to four hours will be charged a $50.00 testing fee. Computer settings will not be modified to accommodate a test for an outside agency (non-Minnesota West or non-MnSCU). No software will be installed to accommodate a test for an outside agency (non-Minnesota West or non-MnSCU).
For non-Minnesota West or non-MnSCU testing, payment may be made in cash or by check payable to Minnesota West Community & Technical College. Campus personnel should submit proctoring fees to their campus business office. If paying cash, EXACT PAYMENT AMOUNT is needed as the proctoring area does not carry change.
**Students who are taking the Accuplacer assessment test will not be charged the testing fee.
Instructor and Student Responsibilities
Instructors are responsible for submitting to the proctor the name of the student(s), the exam, and specific instructions for the exam. They are also responsible for picking up the exam after it is completed or making arrangements to have the test delivered or mailed to them.
The student must arrive at the appointment on-time. The student is responsible for notifying the proctor as soon as possible if he or she cannot make the appointment. Students are responsible for providing a photo ID at the time of the exam. No exams will be administered without proper identification. Students should also be aware that electronic devices such as cell phones should be turned off while taking an exam. No backpacks or purses will be allowed during the testing. Visiting with other students will not be allowed during the exam, nor are students allowed to leave the testing area once the exam has begun. Test proctors may also have additional requirements based on instructions from the instructor. Should a student not follow the guidelines set forth by the instructor or the guidelines established by the proctor, the proctor has the right to stop an exam.
Minnesota West Community & Technical College reserves the right to cancel or change the date of any proctored exam. Minnesota West Community & Technical College also reserves the right to refuse to proctor an exam for an outside (non-Minnesota West or non-MnSCU) agency.
