Minnesota West Community & Technical College proudly celebrates the induction of longtime coach and educator Jeff Linder into the NJCAA Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2026, recognizing a remarkable career that has left a lasting impact on Minnesota West football, student-athletes, and the game itself.

Reflecting on the honor, Linder shared: "This Hall of Fame induction is truly humbling. It represents far more than wins and championships. It reflects 28 years of relationships, memories, sacrifices, and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of young men both on and off the field."

Linder served as head football coach of the Minnesota West Bluejays for 28 seasons, from 1995 to 2023, making him the longest-tenured football coach in program history. His induction into the Hall of Fame honors more than three decades of dedication to student-athlete success, community college athletics, and football development across the region.

A native of Worthington, Minnesota, Linder's connection to the game began as an offensive tackle for championship teams at Worthington High School before continuing his playing career with the Bluejays and later at Bemidji State University. After graduating, he returned to Minnesota West as defensive coordinator under legendary coach Don Varpness before taking over the program in 1995.

Over the course of his coaching career, Linder guided the Bluejays through more than 250 games, compiling a winning record while building one of the most respected NJCAA Division III football programs in the Midwest. Under his leadership, Minnesota West captured five Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Southern Division championships and advanced to six Region XIII/MCAC championship games.

Linder credits much of that success to the people who surrounded the program throughout his career. Looking back, those relationships remain the most meaningful part of his Hall of Fame recognition. "I’m incredibly grateful for the players, assistant coaches, colleagues, and supporters who have been part of it all. This honor may have my name on it, but it belongs to everyone who helped build the Minnesota West football family."

His coaching excellence earned numerous achievements, including five NJCAA Division III MCAC Coach of the Year honors and six MCAC Southern Division Coach of the Year awards. In 2004, he was recognized statewide by the Minnesota Vikings with their Minnesota College Coach of the Year award.

While the championships and awards reflect a successful coaching tenure, Linder's greatest legacy may be the relationships he built with student-athletes. He mentored 11 NJCAA All-Americans and helped hundreds of players continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions, including several who advanced to NCAA Division I programs and professional football opportunities. He accomplished this while leading a Division III program that competed without athletic scholarships, relying on hard work, dedication, and a commitment to student success.

Linder's influence extended well beyond the sidelines. He actively contributed to the advancement of football through service on regional athletic committees, presentations at high school coaching clinics, participation on the Midwest Youth Football Rules Committee, and contributions to the American Football Coaches Association summer coaching manual.

In addition to football, Linder previously served as head coach of Minnesota West's baseball and women's softball programs and has remained a dedicated educator throughout his career. Even after stepping down as head football coach in 2023, he continues serving students in the classroom at Minnesota West.

Throughout that journey, Linder says his family has been his foundation. "I couldn't have accomplished any of this without the support of my wife, Jen, and our family. Their sacrifices, encouragement, and commitment behind the scenes have made this coaching journey possible."

Reflecting on his career, Linder's impact can be measured not only in wins and championships, but in the generations of student-athletes he helped shape. His commitment to mentorship, education, and the game of football has strengthened Minnesota West athletics and created opportunities that continue to benefit students today.

Linder and his wife, Jen, are proud parents of seven children and grandparents of two. Family has remained at the center of his life throughout a coaching career that has touched countless others.

As he reflects on nearly three decades leading the Bluejays, Linder remains focused on gratitude for the people who shared the journey. "Being recognized for something I've loved doing for nearly three decades is an incredible honor. I'm proud of what we've accomplished at Minnesota West, but I'm even more grateful for the people who made the journey so special."

Congratulations to Coach Jeff Linder on this well-deserved milestone, and thank you for your contributions to Bluejay Athletics, Minnesota West, and the many communities you have served throughout your career.
