Minnesota West Medical Coding Specialist Program Earns National PCAP Approval

Luverne, MN — Minnesota West Community & Technical College is proud to announce that its Medical Coding Specialist Certificate Program has received official approval from the Professional Certificate Approval Program (PCAP) Council of the American Health Information Management Association® (AHIMA®).

The program has earned PCAP‑approved status for three years, effective April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2029. This distinction recognizes the program’s alignment with nationally recognized standards for medical coding education and affirms its quality, rigor, and relevance to current healthcare industry needs.

“The PCAP Council commends you and your colleagues for your commitment to the development of an outstanding coding certificate program,” said Daniela Amendola, Executive Assistant, AHIMA®.

Andrea Johnson, Program Coordinator and Instructor for the Medical Coding Specialist Program, and Jackie Otkin, Dean of Allied Health, expressed appreciation for the recognition.

“This approval reflects the dedication of our faculty and the quality of education our students receive,” Johnson said. “PCAP approval ensures our graduates are well prepared to meet certification requirements and workforce expectations.”
