WORTHINGTON, MN—Minnesota West Community and Technical College proudly announces that Dr. Paul Seifert, a dedicated physics and mathematics instructor, has been selected as the college’s nominee for the Minnesota State Board of Trustees Educator of the Year award. This nomination recognizes Dr. Seifert's educational contributions and commitment to teaching excellence.

Known for his innovative, hands-on approach to learning, Dr. Seifert has a reputation for engaging students through interactive labs and real-world applications. His use of virtual reality technology and at-home labs in both traditional and online settings allows students to explore scientific concepts in an accessible and engaging way. His dedication to student-centered learning is reflected in student feedback, with one noting, “Even though I am not particularly fond of physics, I found this course to be enjoyable. I also found it easy to learn from this instructor.”

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Seifert holds leadership roles in several college committees, including the Science and Mathematics Division and the All-College Finance Committee. He is also committed to educational outreach, organizing public star parties, leading high-altitude ballooning projects, and collaborating with local schools to bring STEM experiences to students. Through these initiatives, Dr. Seifert extends the reach of Minnesota West’s academic impact across the community.

Dr. Seifert’s nomination follows a selection process, with nominations gathered from staff and faculty in the fall and reviewed by a college-wide committee. Minnesota West Provost Arthur Brown submitted his nomination on November 1, officially placing him among the candidates for Educator of the Year. In the coming months, a Minnesota State committee will review nominees, with final award winners expected to be announced in February 2025.

Minnesota West's college community congratulates Dr. Seifert on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to his continued impact on students and the greater community.
