Minnesota West and the City of Worthington enter into a 15-Year Partnership for Shared Use of JBS Fieldhouse
(Worthington, MN) June 11, 2024 - The City of Worthington and Minnesota West Community and Technical College are excited to announce a new long-term partnership for the shared use of the JBS Fieldhouse. This 15-year agreement, effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2039, will support Minnesota West athletics and Peace Officer training programs, fostering a collaborative relationship that benefits both the community and the college. “We are extremely pleased with this partnership. This agreement reflects both the college's and the city's dedication to fostering educational and athletic excellence in our community," stated Minnesota West Provost, Dr. Arthur Brown.
Minnesota State has committed to funding improvements to the JBS Fieldhouse to enhance the facility's infrastructure. The agreement ensures year-round training opportunities for the Peace Officer program, providing essential educational benefits to students as well as year-round training for Minnesota West's athletic sports and intramural activities, promoting physical fitness and team sports within the student body.
“We are thrilled to partner with the City of Worthington to utilize the JBS Fieldhouse for our athletic training, which will enhance both our educational and athletic offerings," said Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka, Women’s Athletic Director and NCJAA DIII Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. "This agreement will strengthen our ties with the community and provide a place for outdoor teams to practice in inclement weather," added Bob Purcell, Men’s Athletic Director.
The City of Worthington will replace the artificial field turf, wall and column protection/padding, netting, and ensure ADA compliance when these elements reach the end of their lifecycle. "The City of Worthington is pleased to support Minnesota West through this partnership," said Steve Robinson, Worthington City Administrator. "By working together, we can ensure the JBS Fieldhouse remains a vital resource for both the college and the community."
In 2020, JBS USA made a large donation to the city to renovate the engineered steel structure building into the fieldhouse and recreation center. Both parties will work collaboratively to accommodate collegiate, Worthington High School, and soccer club activities and schedules. Regular meetings will be held to compare schedules in advance of each season, minimizing conflicts and making certain both parties' needs are met.
