Rosalie Hayenga, also known as Coach Moz, has been a cornerstone of Minnesota West
since 2004. A standout athlete from Worthington, Hayenga enjoyed a stellar basketball
career before transitioning to coaching and teaching. She currently serves as the
head coach of the women's basketball team, the women’s Athletic Director, and a biology
instructor.
As a coach, Hayenga has had tremendous success, including being named the 2023-24
NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Jays
to their first national championship. The 2024 team recorded 26 wins and just 7 losses,
while the previous year they finished as national runners-up. Under her guidance,
the women's basketball team also won the Region XIIIB Championship in 2022, finishing
4th in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Hayenga’s own playing career at Minnesota West was equally impressive, with her team
posting a 45-7 record over two years. In her sophomore year, the team went 26-2 and
won the State Championship. She was named the WBCA/Champions Junior College Player
of the Year and earned All-American honors, later being inducted into the Hall of
Fame.
In addition to her basketball coaching, Hayenga also served as the head women’s softball
coach for ten seasons at Minnesota West, further showcasing her commitment to athletics
and student success.
