Daniel Bernstrom

English Instructor & Interim Head Soccer Coach

Dan is an English instructor at Minnesota West and an award-winning children’s book author. Overcoming early struggles with reading, he developed a passion for storytelling that now shapes both his teaching and writing. His books, including Big Papa and the Time Machine and Good Night, Little Man, draw on his personal experiences and heritage. In 2024, he received a $4,000 SMAC Artist Equity grant and was later nominated for the 2025 Star of the North Award for his book Song in the City.

Bernstrom also serves as Interim Head Soccer Coach, bringing strong leadership and a student-centered approach to the program. A former high school soccer player in Iowa, he has been a key member of the Bluejays’ coaching staff, contributing both on and off the field. Known for his ability to connect with student-athletes, Bernstrom regularly supports players in academics, personal development, and day-to-day needs, making him a trusted mentor and valuable leader within the program.
