The book, Cold War in a Cold Land: Fighting Communism on the Northern Plains, is an examination of the Cold War as it pertained to played out in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. Its premise is that the federal government developed a number of programs aimed at anticommunism, patriotism, civil defense, and military defense, and then pushed those programs to the state and local levels for implementation.  This book is an examination of those programs.

From the OU website:  "A much-needed, nuanced account of how average citizens in middle America experienced Cold War politics and policies, Cold War in a Cold Land is a significant addition to the history of both the Cold War and the Great Plains."

Copies of the book will be available purchase at the book signing or to purchase and read more about the book you can find information at http://www.oupress.com/ECommerce/Book/Detail/1962/cold%20war%20in%20a%20cold%20land
