McLemore to Visit Minnesota West

Please join us on the Worthington Campus of Minnesota West as Dr. Leslie McLemore will speak to students, faculty, staff and the public about Voices in Unity. A Question and Answer period will follow the presentation.

This event is sponsored through a collaboration of SMSU (Marshall) and Minnesota West Community & Technical College (Worthington Campus) and will be held at the Minnesota West Fine Arts Theater, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 12:00 Noon. 

Dr. McLemore has been active in the Civil Rights Movement and student activism since the early 60s. He was a member and activist for the NAACP and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), participating in various activities including voter registration drives. McLemore served as northern regional coordinator for the Freedom Vote campaign in 1963.

He holds a master's degree in political science and a doctorate in government from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Dr. McLemore served on the city council in Jackson, Mississippi until his term ended in 2009. McLemore is vice-chairman of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, a professor of political science at Jackson State University, and director of the Fannie Lou Hamer National Institute on Citizenship and Democracy.
