A new student housing development is under construction for Minnesota West Community and Technical College. The developer, Bluffstone LLC, brands all student housing communities as The Villas.  Bluejay Villas is a private development consisting of 108 beds designed specifically for Minnesota West students with occupancy beginning the fall of 2018. The Villas will consist of student-centric living quarters with common indoor amenities. The common indoor area will consist of the manager’s office, mailboxes, social room/recreation center, and a 24-hour fitness center along with study rooms and state-of-the-art laundry facilities. The living quarters will include four bedroom/four bathroom suites and two bedroom/two bathroom suites. Each suite will be fully furnished with full size beds, desks and chairs in each bedroom, sofas, chairs and barstools for breakfast bars for shared areas. Kitchens will have full size Energy-Star appliances. The Villas will be located on campus near the ball diamonds off North Crailsheim Road. The construction cost for The Villas has been privately financed by the developer with First National Bank - Fulda, MN and First American State Bank - Bettendorf, IA.

“Minnesota West clearly had a need for housing at its Worthington campus, and I’m pleased we were able to help secure a state grant and move this project forward,” said State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake). “This facility is not only critical for our students but for our communities, as it will free up much-needed housing units throughout our region.”

Worthington Mayor, Mike Kuhle comments, “Having witnessed the growth of the community colleges in Estherville and Sheldon, IA when they put in on campus housing. It was a goal that I have had since becoming Mayor to get on campus housing at Minnesota West. This housing project not only benefits the college but the community as well with badly needed housing. If Minnesota West grows and students and jobs grow as well this is good for Economic Development for Worthington.”

“Minnesota West appreciates the support of our community leaders, local legislators, and our Minnesota State staff in aligning resources in service to our students and the Worthington community.  We are grateful for their determination and advocacy in helping our community’s college, Minnesota West, attract and retain our most important resource; the talent of this region. This innovative public-private partnership evidences the power of community and Greater Minnesota’s necessity to work in close collaboration across sectors for a shared purpose”, adds Minnesota West President Dr. Terry Gaalswyk.

Bluffstone, a regional student housing provider with properties at throughout the Midwest, specializes in amenity rich apartment complexes for small colleges and universities. “Bluffstone is very pleased to enter into this partnership with Minnesota West Community and Technical College, the City of Worthington and Minnesota State. We truly appreciate the collaboration between all parties to bring an incredible student housing community to Worthington.” said Tim Baldwin, Managing Partner of Bluffstone, LLC.

A formal ground-breaking event will be held on November 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Minnesota West Community & Technical College.
