Transfer Student Admission

Follow these instructions if you have previously attended a college or university.

Procedure

  1. Complete the Minnesota West online application for admission.

  2. Send a $20 non-refundable application fee to the Admissions Secretary at the campus where you are applying. All students must pay a $20 application fee one time only.

  3. Request your high school forward an official copy of your transcript or GED to the campus admissions staff where you are applying. For your convenience, you may print the Transcript Release Form to take/send to your high school.

  4. Contact the college(s) you attended previously and have them mail an official college transcript(s) to the Admissions Secretary at the campus where you are applying.  If you previously attended an institution that is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, you may not need to request a transcript.  If you apply online, you will be notified immediately if you need to request your own transcript manually.  For your convenience, you may print the Transcript Release Form to use when requesting a transcript manually from a MnSCU school or from any non-MnSCU school.

  5. Schedule an appointment with a counselor who will evaluate your transcript(s) to determine which courses will transfer to Minnesota West. The counselor will advise and assist you in registering for classes.

  6. You will need to complete the assessment test. If you have substantial course work requiring reading, completed college-level advanced math and /or English composition, you should ask a counselor if you are exempt from the assessment test.

  7. Orientation for transfer students is recommended. The counselor will provide you with a schedule of orientation sessions.
