Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)
Program for High School Students
As enacted in the 1985 Minnesota Legislature, a Minnesota high school junior or senior may enroll for courses at Minnesota West as part of the student’s full-time high school enrollment and receive both college credit and credit toward high school graduation requirements. No charge will be made to students for the costs of tuition, fees (except for private music lessons), or required textbooks.

It is recommended that students carefully consider their participation in this program before applying for admission. Students should discuss participation in the PSEO program with their parents and high school counselor/principal.
To be an eligible student you must meet the following criteria: high school juniors must rank in the upper third of their class and seniors must rank in the upper half of their class. Students may also be admitted by scoring 70 percent on any nationally normed test as a junior or 50 percent of any nationally normed test for a senior. Area Learning Center (ALC) and home school students and students not meeting the above criteria, may be eligible for admissions if they demonstrate readiness for college through completing the college readiness assessment test. Students not meeting the options listed above have the option to appeal the admissions decision.

Procedure
- Make an appointment with your high school counselor to discuss your career plan and review your high school graduation requirements.
- Complete the Minnesota West online application for admission. The application fee is not required for PSEO enrollment.
- Most High Schools are aware that they have two options for PSEO student billing:
-
- High schools can complete what Minnesota West refers to as the “PSEO Application for Contract Training Form.” In essence, Minnesota West will bill the high school and the high school pays the college.
- High schools can complete what Minnesota West refers to as the “True PSEO State Form.” The college bills the state for the PSEO students and is reimbursed by the state at the end of the academic year.
Students print and complete the appropriate form and give it to your counselor. This form must be signed by you and a parent or guardian (if you are under the age of 18). You must complete page 1, and your high school counselor must complete page 2 of the PSEO contract form. Send the completed PSEO form to the campus admissions staff where you are applying.
- Request an official copy of your high school transcript (the transcript must show your class rank).
- When your application has been processed, you will receive a letter detailing the steps you need to follow for assessment, orientation, and registration:
- take the assessment test to determine readiness for college-level classes.
- make an appointment with your campus counselor to register for classes. PSEO students are not allowed to enroll in any courses below college level such as ESL and developmental classes.
- attend an orientation session.
To complete your student file, you must submit the following documents to the admissions staff at the campus you plan to attend.
